Consultant Clinical and Forensic Psychologist and Associate Professor of Forensic Psychology

Yvonne Shell is a Consultant Clinical and Forensic Psychologist and Associate Professor of Forensic Psychology at Kingston University. She is a dually qualified practitioner psychologist with more than three decades of experience across forensic, clinical, criminal justice and community settings.

Her career has included senior clinical work within maximum secure forensic services, including Broadmoor and Rampton High Security Hospitals, as well as work across prisons, secure services, substance misuse, homelessness and Liaison and Diversion. She has also worked directly with policing and criminal justice partners, advising on mental health, risk, complex case management and offender behaviour.

Yvonne’s expertise is highly relevant to harmful practices and hidden abuse. Her work explores shame, moral injury, intimate partner violence, sexual offending, personality disorder, coercion and high-risk behaviour. She helps organisations understand how trauma, fear, dependency, identity, cultural context and psychological control can affect victim behaviour, perpetrator behaviour and professional responses to risk.

She brings to Indaba a rare combination of clinical insight, forensic expertise, academic rigour and practical experience of policing, justice and safeguarding systems. Her work supports organisations to better recognise hidden harm, strengthen professional curiosity and develop more psychologically informed responses to victims, perpetrators and complex risk.
