Gill Squires MBE

Gill Squires MBE is a former Detective Constable and specialist child abuse investigator with more than 30 years’ service in West Midlands Police. After investigating serious intrafamilial abuse within a multi-agency child protection team, she specialised from 2009 in female genital mutilation (FGM), honour-based abuse and forced marriage. She represented the force on regional and national forums, contributed to Home Office stakeholder and enforcement groups, and, during a secondment to the Home Office FGM Unit, devised and delivered national multi-agency roadshows promoting awareness and effective use of FGM Protection Orders.

 

Gill has investigated FGM, forced marriage and honour-based abuse cases, advised senior managers on tactics and investigative strategy, and remains a trusted source of specialist advice for police colleagues. She has also worked with family courts to improve understanding of harmful practices and safeguarding risk. Her honours include a Women in Policing Special Recognition Award, an MBE in 2018 for services to policing, and a Home Secretary’s Commendation in 2021 for her work on forced marriage.
